The B1 E-Mail Template
One fixed skeleton + memorized sentence-starters + a proofreading protocol. Works for every telc B1 writing task. Target: B/B/B = 27/45.
The 30-minute clock (never again 6 minutes)

Verified against all 24 readable past exams (2 July scan): every single task is an informal du-form reply to a named friend — this skeleton fits every one. Three footnotes:
- Why "von dir zu hören" and not "darüber": in a few exams the friend's letter brings bad news (thomas broke his leg; nicole and sophie write about problems). "Ich habe mich sehr darüber gefreut" = "I was happy about that" — tone-deaf there. "…gefreut, von dir zu hören" is content-neutral and fits all 24.
- One exam has TWO senders (cora-und-alex): greet both — Liebe Cora, lieber Alex, — and switch du→ihr throughout: euren Brief · Wenn ihr noch Fragen habt, schreibt mir · eure Antwort.
- Match the task's word: if the friend sent a Brief, write deinen Brief (and add a date line — the rubric says "Vergessen Sie nicht Datum und Anrede"); if an E-Mail, write deine E-Mail + Betreff. Date line placement: top right, on its own line BEFORE the Anrede — Amman, den 5. Juli 2026 (memorize the exam-day line!). The corpus prints ask for a Betreff even on Brief tasks, so Brief = Betreff → Datum → Anrede.
The opener is NOT the "Reaktion" Leitpunkt. Nearly every task has a point like "Reaktion auf die Neuigkeit/den Vorschlag" — that still needs its own sentence: Das sind ja tolle Neuigkeiten! Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deiner neuen Stelle! (good news) · Es tut mir sehr leid, dass du dir das Bein gebrochen hast. Gute Besserung! (bad news). The thank-you line doesn't earn that point.

Your personal proofreading protocol (minutes 22–30)
Four passes over the text, one error type per pass. Built from your actual baseline errors — these ARE your mistakes:
- Pass 1 — Capital letters. Touch every noun: der Besuch, der Ausflug, das Hemd, das Kleid, der Badeanzug, das Wetter, der Fall (auf jeden Fall). German capitalizes ALL nouns. Your baseline: 0% capitalized.
- Pass 2 — Verb endings. Find every verb, check it matches its subject: wir wollen, du musst, ich mache. Your baseline: wir will ×2.
- Pass 3 — Verb position. If a sentence starts with anything other than the subject (Auf jeden Fall / Im Juli / Außerdem), the verb comes IMMEDIATELY second: Auf jeden Fall musst du einen Badeanzug mitbringen.
- Pass 4 — Structure. Betreff present? Anrede gender right (Liebe Marianne)? All 4 Leitpunkte? Schluss + Gruß + name?

Why ~100 words and not more: there is no official word count — only the 4 Leitpunkte, connection between them, and correctness are rated. Every extra sentence is another chance for a criterion-III error. Say it, connect it, check it, stop.
