Grammar Priorities — the grammar that actually scores points

Your diagnostic says: classic grammar cloze is already fine (SB Teil 1 = 9/10). The money is in SB Teil 2 (1/10 → 13.5 recoverable points) and Schreiben Kriterium III. Both run on the five small families below — not on "B1 grammar" in general.

The 4-step gap method (SB Teil 2)

Step	Do
1	Find the verb in the gap's clause. Verb at the end? Verb right after the gap? Normal subject–verb? This alone classifies most connector gaps (see Family 2).
2	Name the missing word class (connector? pronoun? preposition? verb form? adverb?). Filter the 15-word bank to that class — usually only 2–4 words survive.
3	Pick by meaning, using the trap-pair tests (Family 3).
4	Cross the word off. Each word fits once — you lost points on the diagnostic by reusing letters. Physically strike used options.

Family 1 — Höflichkeits-Konjunktiv (in nearly every word bank)

HÄTTE / WÄRE / KÖNNTE(N) / WÜRDE(N) / MÖCHTE appeared in almost every Teil-2 bank in the 24-exam scan. Recognize the polite-request frame and these fill themselves.

Doppelnutzen für Schreiben: the same five forms are your letter formulas — proposals (Wir könnten uns am Samstag treffen), polite asks (Es wäre schön, wenn du kommst), wishes (Ich würde gern…). One family, two exam sections.

Family 2 — Connector classes: let the verb position choose for you

Real exam pair: „…, deshalb schreibe ich Ihnen“ (verb right after → adverb class) vs „…, weil das nicht so weit weg ist“ (verb at end → subordinator). If the gap clause ends in the verb, aber/deshalb are grammatically impossible — strike them without reading further.

Family 3 — Trap pairs (banks deliberately contain both twins)

weil vs damit	Reason (because) → weil. Purpose/goal (so that) → damit.	…weil Klagenfurt nah ist. · …damit ich nachmittags frei habe.
obwohl vs trotzdem	Same meaning, different class: verb-final → obwohl; inversion → trotzdem.	Obwohl er faul ist, … · Er ist faul, trotzdem schafft er es.
aber vs sondern	sondern only after a negation, correcting it (“not X but rather Y”).	nicht dumm, sondern faul · Er ist klug, aber faul.
in vs vor + Zeit	Future distance → in (in two years’ time). Past (“ago”) → vor. Ongoing since → seit.	Er macht in zwei Jahren Abitur. · Vor zwei Jahren war ich… · seit drei Jahren

Family 4 — mir vs mich (and friends)

mir (Dativ) with: helfen, danken, gefallen, schicken/geben/empfehlen (+Sache), antworten; and in frames Mir wäre es wichtig…, Es geht mir gut, Ich mache mir Sorgen (um).
mich (Akkusativ, mostly reflexive+preposition): ich interessiere mich für, ich freue mich auf/über, ich bewerbe mich um, ich möchte mich informieren (über).
Your known trap (from the writing baseline): sich freuen auf = looking forward (future) · sich freuen über = happy about (already happened).
Other verb+preposition regulars in the banks: bitten um, teilnehmen an (+Dat), denken an, warten auf, fragen nach.

Family 5 — Fixed phrases the banks recycle

Writing insurance (your personal error list, record 0002): noun capitalization · wir wollen (not wir will) · V2 after fronted element (Auf jeden Fall musst du…) · im Juli · Betreff is mandatory. Proofread these five before anything else.
